DoorDash, a food delivery startup could become the next recipient of an investment from Softbank’s “Vision Fund” of $98 billion. Sources who are aware of the possible deal told Recode that while the deal was not yet secured, if passed through would provide DoorDash with a $300 million investment.
A possible barrier for the investment is Softbank’s tentative deal with Uber regarding a 20 percent stake in the company, the same sources told Recode. Since Uber owns UberEats, a food-delivery service, this could provide a hindrance for DoorDash’s investment.
In an effort to stand out with the many different food-delivery startups that have appeared, DoorDash has confirmed partnerships with 51 of the top restaurant chains in the United States, including Wendy’s, Jack in the Box and the Cheesecake Factory.
In the past, the company has raised $130 million, including which the company was worth approximately $720 million in March 2016, according to Pitchbook. Similar food delivery startups that have emerged include GrubHub and Postmates.
