Philippines-based startup gets investment from Fullerton Health

During a time when China-based investors are looking at Philippines-based startups, provider of healthcare solutions, Fullerton Health, plans to purchase a stake in Intellicare Group, Deal Street Asia reported.

Asalus, Avega and Aventus are three companies under the Intellicare Group, the first of which focuses on delivery of healthcare services and maintenance, the second which allows for involvement of third-party services, and the third which is a chain of clinics. The company has had an influential presence in the country since its founding in 1995.

The purchase would give Fullerton Health 60 percent stake in the healthcare startup. “It will enable us to tap into their expansive network and wealth of experience across Asia Pacific to ensure that we are delivering the most sophisticated care possible to corporates and patients throughout the Philippines,” Mario M. Silos, Chairman and President of Intellicare Group, said.

Issues such as lack of infrastructure, population ratios of people to resources available make the healthcare sector one with investment needs. The investment would give Fullerton Health footing in an Asian Pacific market, already have a presence in seven countries all over the world. The deal is expected to go through sometime early next year.

“With a population of over 100 million people, the Philippines offers great growth potential for the company, and the potential synergies between our two businesses, together with our operational and technological capabilities, will allow us to deliver increased benefits and services to even more corporates and patients across the country,” Dr Michael Tan, Co-Founder and Group CEO of Fullerton Health said in a statement. In November, Fullerton Health received an investment of $12 million, from Ping An Capital, giving the Chinese investment company the second largest share of Fullerton Health.
