An incubator programme launched by Paytm will look toward developers who provide top quality solutions incorporating technology and design in various sectors. The virtual incubator was launched as part of the ‘Build for India’ initiative and hopes to start with 20 different institutions, aiming to create a community for technology developers in the country and allow them to communicate developments with one another.
“The objective is to give back to the developer community and not to sell these solutions. The virtual incubator will help any developer working in our focus areas to design world-class solutions,” Deepak Abbot, Senior Vice-President at Paytm told Economic Times. The goal of the ‘Build for India’ initiative is to create an environment in which both professionals and students can work to build and share solutions using open-sourcing, with the international community.
The IITs, NSIT (Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology), Delhi Technological University, Amity University, and BIT Mesra are among the institutions currently discussing involvement in the programme with Paytm. The incubator programme will have a focus on solutions for sectors including education, digital lifestyle, financial inclusion, including machine learning, augmented reality and virtual reality.
“We will encourage the participants to keep their work open sourced. These projects’ code will then be shared via GitHub,” Abbott said. Solutions and developers who stand out through the programme will receive recognition from the company and may receive support in terms of scholarships or recruitment. Every now and then, Paytm will provide the community with mentoring, hackathons, boot camps and technology and design support.
