New $450 mn investment round for Chinese grocery delivery startup

Beijing-based delivery startup, Miss Fresh E-Commerce, has raised a new Series D investment round worth $450 million.

Miss Fresh E-Commerce was founded by Bin Zeng and Xu Zheng in 2014 and provides users with an online platform through which they can order grocery items to be delivered directly to them.

Funds from the new $450 million investment round will be used for various purposes including for the company’s infrastructure, technology and supply chain, according to Wang Jun, the Chief Financial Officer at Miss Fresh, as reported by Reuters.

Since its founding, the Chinese startup has developed a presence in 20 cities throughout the country including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The company has further plans to expand into a total of 100 cities, Zheng said in a statement, Reuters reported.

According to the statement by China Renaissance, investors in the Series D round include Goldman Sachs, Jeneration Capital,  Poly Capital, Glade Brook Capital, Sofina, Tiger Global, Davis Selected Advisers and Tencent Holdings Ltd.

While the startup focuses its delivery services on fresh groceries and produce, they deliver a variety of grocery items including dairy, meat, vegetables, drinks and others.

The startup also plans to expand to 1,000 warehouses, Zheng said in the statement.
