Bangladeshi startup, Shohoz raises $15 million for booking platform

An online platform provider with a focus on travel needs for its user-base, Shohoz, has raised a new pre-Series B investment round.

The startup provides various services via its platform, including ticketing services and ride-share needs. The Bangladeshi platform is available via website or mobile app.

“When we started Shohoz in 2014, our vision was to evolve into the number one online destination for Bangladeshis,” Founder of Shohoz, Maliha Quadir said, as reported by Deal Street Asia. “We started with tickets, added ride-sharing in 2018, and are now executing on a grander “super-app” strategy.”

The company provides a variety of booking services including those for ride-share transportation options like cars, bikes, buses and ferries, as well as other ticketing needs such as movies.

According to a statement from the startup, funds from this $15 million pre-Series B round will be used to expand the company’s service offerings to other sectors as well as for growing the company’s customer-base.

Golden Gate Ventures led the investment round which also saw participation from 500 Startups, Linear VC and Boon Hwee Koh.

“Today Bangladesh has all the indicators of a country poised for tremendous growth: increasing digitisation of consumer services, rising consumer purchasing power, and an incredibly dense, urbanising population,” Justin Hall from Golden Gate Ventures said. “Shohoz is emerging at just the right time and place to completely dominate the consumer landscape in Bangladesh.”
