As the global need for protective face masks has risen during Covid-19, Nanosafe Solutions has created a new protective mask called ‘NSafe.’
Nanosafe Solutions is a biotechnology startup based in New Delhi. NSafe, which was unveiled on May 6th, has three layers and is currently in the manufacturing process.
“We believe this is the first fabric based antimicrobial face mask launched in India, which is washable and reusable along with very high Bacterial Filtration Efficiency as tested according to ASTM standards.” Nanosafe co-founder, Mangala Joshi, told Times of India. “It is engineered to have very good breathability and comfort.”
The masks are meant to prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 virus from and to users. The NSafe product is reusable and meant to be hand washed up to 50 times, as reported by TOI.
The outermost of the three layers is water and oil-safe, with the middle providing a solution to fight microorganisms, and the last providing a comfortable wearing experience. NSafe can be worn for around eight hours.
“Effective reusability is an important factor as single-use masks will cause huge disposal issues,” Anasuya Roy, co-founder of Nanospace said, as reported by TOI.
The product is packaged and dry-cleaned in a safe and healthy process and is to be disposed of via a specific polyethylene pouch.
The startup is a part of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where Joshi is also a professor.
