US based ride-hailing service, Uber has named the Delhi-NCR region as the location with most
riders in the country in 2017. The company which provided its 500 millionth ride on July 17 this year, said users in the city hailed up to 1,969 rides this year.
Amit Jain, the President of Uber and South Asia, in a statement, noted the products brought out
by the company which work with and promote the use of rideshares and public transportation.
The company said the city has reached a point of five trips a day, with India having reached 5
billion rides in May 2017, making it the second largest user base in regards to the company’s
latest achievement of 500 million rides.
“In 2017, we were focused on moving from a startup to a sustainable business in India. As a
result, we recorded double-digits growth and continue to clock over 1 million trips a day,” Jain
said in the statement. According to the company, the most active day for the ride-share service in the country is Friday, the most active hour being 6 pm, and the busiest day was August 11 of this year.
Additionally, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Delhi, in that order had the most UberPool
trips.
Indian riders in 80 different countries have used Uber, in a total of 566 cities
The company also said UberGo has shown to be the most popular product by the company in
Delhi. More recently, the company has launched UberEats, the food delivery service provided
by the company, in 6 cities throughout the country, so far.
