Bengaluru-based startup with focus on pregnancy, PregBuddy, raises seed funds

Aiming to provide expecting mothers with high quality, personalised healthcare options, PregBuddy, has raised a seed funding round.

The health-tech startup provides users with a platform connecting them with healthcare professionals. The platform provides its users with medical care that is personalised to them after taking into account a variety of aspects including their medical histories, location, language preferences and where in their pregnancy they are.

The company provides the soon-to-be-mothers with information, guidance and experts on a range of topics from emotional assistance to nutrition.

“Over the past 1.5 years we’ve seen the impact of our product on expecting mothers’ lives, Cofounder & COO at PregBuddy, Sivareena Sarika said, as reported by Financial Express. “Every day we have at least 100 mothers who are delivering their babies after using PregBuddy. This provides us immense satisfaction and boost to our team to do more. We plan to utilize this investment to expand our team and scale up the platform.”

Sarika founded Pregbuddy with fellow IIT graduate Subhadeel Mondal after seeing a family member experience a miscarriage and as a result, a need for such a service.

Investors in the seed round include Rajan Anandan, Madhusudhan Kannan, Jayant Kadambi, Puneet Gupta, and Indian Angel Network, who led the round. The startup was also previously selected in the Solve for India program by Google.

The Bengaluru-based startup, which began as a group on mobile messenger app, Whatsapp, has seen 60,000 users since its founding in 2016.

“Technology is playing a defining role in today’s healthcare system both for enhancing quality and improving access to healthcare in India, IAN investor Pradeep K Jaisingh, said. “PregBuddy has emerged as an exciting new platform for both caregivers and patients alike, leading to great improvements in patient satisfaction, reduced costs and improved health outcomes. The company has had phenomenal success so far in this domain and we believe they will continue to excel in the industry to be a market leader.”

Pregbuddy looks to provide users with assistance throughout the pregnancy process, from before conception to after the birth of the child. The startup’s board will see an additional member in Jaisingh as part of the investment deal.
