Professional communication startup, Blind, receives $37 mn Series C

Berkeley-based communication startup, Blind, raises a new investment round worth $37 million for its professional networking-focused platform and services.

The startup’s mobile app provides a digital platform for users to have discussions, and communicate anonymously on a variety of topics surrounding careers and individual workplaces. The mobile platform allows for general conversation, as well as provides private channels for companies’ employees to discuss their specific place of work, office, and employers. Employees do have to be verified in order to use the platform.

“People are just more honest on our platform versus these company-sponsored channels,” Co-founder at Blind, Kyum Kim, said to TechCrunch. “Probably the only platform where people are coming voluntarily, have visibility into their intentions, how they feel about their company’s policies.”

Blind was founded by Kim and Sunguk Moon in May 2013 and has grown its mobile app to approximately five million users, so far.

The startup has also worked to develop and launch a hiring platform that companies can use to recruit new employees, called ‘Talent by Blind’ where users can sign up, create a profile, and discover new work opportunities if recruited.

Investors in the Series C funding round include Mainstreet Investment, Cisco Investments and Pavilion Capital, among others.
